In a recent development, the popular Facebook group, Are We Dating The Same Guy? | Vancouver / British Columbia, has encountered obstacles due to what they claim to be an “unfair citation from Facebook’s moderation system.”
The citation has led to the temporary suspension of Anonymous Posting within the group, resulting in significant changes to maintain the group’s integrity and protect its members’ anonymity.
To overcome the limitations imposed by Facebook, the group’s administrator, Paola Sanchez, has introduced a volunteer-based system to facilitate posting on behalf of others. The aim is to provide a platform for members to share experiences and seek advice without revealing their identities. Volunteers willing to assist others in posting anonymously are encouraged to comment on a designated post, showing their willingness to help fellow group members.
Removal of Anonymous Posting
In addition to addressing the issue of Anonymous Posting, Sanchez has made changes to the group’s moderation process.
Removal of Post Approval
Post Approval, which was previously in place, has been temporarily turned off. Group Rule #1 has become even more critical during this period, as members are requested to closely adhere to the guidelines to ensure a positive and supportive environment. Any posts violating the rules will be promptly deleted to maintain the group’s integrity.
To avoid further citations and ensure the group’s compliance with Facebook’s policies, several guidelines have been put in place regarding the content of posts. Members are now urged to refrain from using foul language, negative labels, or making generalizations about men within their post text. These measures aim to foster respectful communication and promote a healthy exchange of ideas. However, members are still encouraged to express their opinions freely within the comments section.
Furthermore, the group administrator has requested that members refrain from posting spam or promoting their businesses without prior approval. This ensures that the primary focus of the group remains on shared experiences and support. Violations of this guideline, as outlined in Group Rule #10, may result in removal from the group.
Recognizing the importance of creating a safe environment free from mean-spirited or bullying comments, the group will be implementing comment filters. These filters will help prevent further shutdowns and preserve a positive atmosphere for all members to engage in constructive discussions.
Sanchez has also shared plans for the development of an app that will provide a secure platform for hosting these groups, eliminating concerns about potential shutdowns. The app will enable members to continue supporting one another while maintaining their anonymity. Interested individuals can sign up for updates on the app’s progress and receive information on what to do in the event of a group shutdown by visiting awdtsg.com.
As the Are We Dating The Same Guy? | Vancouver / British Columbia faces these challenges, members are encouraged by moderators to stand together and support one another.
The temporary suspension of Anonymous Posting and the implementation of stricter guidelines are intended to preserve the integrity and safety of the group. Therefore, moderators say it is crucial for members to cooperate, show understanding, and adhere to the established guidelines to ensure the continued success of Are We Dating The Same Guy? | Vancouver / British Columbia, as a “valuable resource for women seeking shared experiences and support in their dating journeys.”
If Facebook wishes to deter posters from slandering men, it should take further steps given that responses to Paola Sanchez’s post exhibit members willing to expose themselves freely and post for anyone that wants to remain anonymous. See below.
Official Message From Paola Sanchez, Are We Dating The Same Guy? | Vancouver / British Columbia Administrator
Hey Ladies Facebook hit us with an incredibly unfair citation that has put the group on thin ice, and it’s caused us to lose Anonymous Posting.
So, while Anonymous Posting in this group is temporarily disabled due to Facebook moderation, the best we can do is have someone post on your behalf so that it can’t be tied back to you.
Anyone who’s willing to volunteer to post on someone else’s behalf please comment on this post saying so! Then any girl who wants to post a guy in a way that can’t be traced back to her can reach out to whoever comments! It’s a risk for the girls willing to post and I appreciate any of you willing to help your fellow women out
Also, I’m going to need all of your help in keeping the group up. Due to the way that Facebook’s Group Moderation works.. I’m going to have to turn off Post Approval for the time being. So please follow Group Rule #1 as closely as possible or we will have to delete the posts as soon as we see them. Also please DO NOT make any posts that just make fun of a guy or you will be removed!
On top of that, In order to avoid any further Facebook citations, please don’t include any foul language, negative labels, generalizations about men (i.e. “men are ___”), or basically anything controversial in the post text. As was always the case, you’re a lot more free to say what you want in the comments, the above is just regarding what you write in the text of any posts you publish
Finally, please don’t post any spam or anything for your business without contacting me first. If anyone breaks Group Rule #10 I’ll have to remove them from the group
Also, with it likely that an excess of mean and bullying comments were a large factor in those two getting disabled, we’ll likely have to set comment filters to help prevent further shut downs.
Sorry to have to be this strict but we have to do whatever it takes to keep the groups up thank you!
P.S. I’m in the process of building the app where we can safely host these groups without fear. You can sign up for updates on both the app and what to do if this group goes down at awdtsg.com.
