TRIGGER WARNING: Abuse, violence
I’m writing this as a friend of someone who endured an incredibly long and heartbreaking relationship with a man who is dangerous and abusive. They were together for years and had two children. Even when she was going through cancer treatment, he continued to be emotionally, verbally, physically and psychologically abusive. Things escalated to a terrifying point where he tried to attack her with a knife—while their kids were present. That was when she finally told him to leave for good.
He then got involved with another woman he met online. He left Victoria where his kids were and moved to Edmonton where this new girl was. They had a child together and he repeated the exact same cycle of abuse—this time even worse. He was eventually charged and went to jail. One of the charges was aggravated assault, which is just one level below attempted murder.
He’s now out of jail and, from what I’ve heard, living in Yellowknife, though he’s known to travel between there, Edmonton, and Victoria. I’ve been hearing more and more through the grapevine lately, so I felt like I needed to say something—for the safety of other women.
He is known to be extremely manipulative and charming at first, but becomes controlling, violent, and unfaithful—often cheating with escorts behind his partners’ backs.
If anything about this story sounds familiar, or you’re unsure, I can try to help where I can.
Please, please stay safe out there. Watching my friend go through this was heartbreaking, and no one should have to experience what she did.
Eventually cancer did take her, but I truly believe the stress he put her through made it worse. I believe she could have beat it if he hadn’t have been in the picture. He is a terrible person.
